Résumé

La mise en œuvre d’un protocole orthodontico-chirurgical requiert l’intervention éventuelle de nombreux acteurs, et de la coordination de ces différents praticiens dépend souvent la qualité du résultat final. Si l’essor de la chirurgie orthognathique doit historiquement beaucoup au couple orthodontiste-chirurgien maxillo-facial, c’est la collaboration de multiples spécialistes tout au long du processus diagnostique et thérapeutique qui a permis d’atteindre l’exceptionnel niveau de qualité, de fiabilité et de sécurité qui est celui de la chirurgie orthognathique actuellement. Nous voulons ici discuter la place des différents intervenants potentiels dans la prise en charge d’un patient bénéficiant d’un protocole orthodontico-chirurgical, tel que nous le concevons au sein du Département de Chirurgie Maxillo-Faciale du Centre Hospitalier Lyon-Sud.

Abstract

Orthodontic-surgical treatment of dentofacial anomalies involves a multidisciplinary approach that demands to be finely coordinated in order to get a good result. Historically, orthognathic surgery stemmed from the close collaboration between the orthodontist and the maxillo-facial surgeon; however thanks to the collaboration of many other specialists along the diagnostic and therapeutic process, orthognathic surgery nowadays reached an unprecedented level of quality, reliability, and safety. We discuss herein the role of the various specialists that may be involved in the treatment of a patient requiring an orthodontic-surgical coordinated approach, as we see it in the Department of MaxilloFacial Surgery of Centre Hospitalier Lyon-Sud.
